US Army orders remote visualization systems

Remote visualization systems for mine-detecting/road clearance vehicles in Afghanistan have been ordered by the U.S. Army from NIITEK Inc. The contract, with a potential value of $18 million, is for 102 RVIS systems, initial spare parts, technical support and training and logistics data in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. NIITEK said the system provides remote viewing of the Husky Mounted Detection System Graphical User Interface display in a follow-on vehicle. The Husky uses ground penetrating radar to detect both non-metallic and metal-cased explosive devices and RVIS will allow for additional operation from another vehicle and the ability to view and manipulate the HMDS Graphic User Interface. \"The RVIS system is a complimentary technology to the Husky Mounted Detection Systems currently deployed in theater,\" said NIITEK President Juan Navarro. \"RVIS provides the HMDS operator another set of \'eyes\' by transmitting real-time detection information to a secondary display being monitored by others. This enhanced capability allows HMDS and remote operators to quickly analyze and verify threats ensuring improved mission execution in a minimal amount of time.\" Delivery of the systems is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
