South Korea, Japan and China are planning to increasing their cooperation in creating and sharing information regarding operating systems (OSes) to facilitate the development of mobile Internet, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. South Korea’s (Yonhap News Agency) reported Monday the three countries will form an association to boost development and marketing efforts of their respective software industries, and allow them to be more competitive in the global market. South Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy said in a statement: “The countries will work to increase exchange of information and joint global marketing of their software companies by joint development and sharing of the latest technology through a Northeast Asia association for the software sector.” It added China, Japan and South Korea will share OS-related information, including the latest technical trends and applications, to encourage technological and industrial cooperation in the areas of mobile Internet, cloud computing and the Internet of Things. They will also further encourage research on tech related to smart cities, the report noted. As part of the process of forming the tripartite association, the countries began a three-day seminar in Japan starting today, involving some 200 government officials and business representatives.
