LG Electronics Inc., South Korea\'s leading consumer electronics maker, said Tuesday it has unveiled a new lineup of a long-term evolution technology (LTE)-based smartphones at a consumer electronics show in the U.S. LG Electronics said it has released three kinds of LTE smartphones in a bid to penetrate the North American market and showcased one of them at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which opened Monday and will run until Friday in Las Vegas. The LTE network, dubbed fourth-generation technology, allows data-hungry users to access the Internet from smartphones and tablet computers at faster speeds. Meanwhile, Pantech Co., South Korea\'s No. 3 handset maker, said that it has unveiled its first tablet computer and LTE-based smartphone at the CES. The two gadgets will be up for sale starting Jan. 22. South Korea\'s tech companies including Samsung Electronics have scurried to tap into the fast growing smartphone and tablet computer markets in a bid to boost their earnings as the local handset and consumer electronics markets are already saturated.
