A production line dedicated to making a new Central Atmosphere Monitoring System for U.S. Navy submarines has been opened by Hamilton Sundstrand Corp. The company\'s CAMS IIA is being retrofitted on the Navy\'s Los Angeles class submarines and also is part of the Virginia class Block III submarine program. It will be retrofitted on all submarines and used on future systems. The CAM IIA measures oxygen generation and levels and other elements in a submarine. \"The CAMS IIA was developed to be more affordable to manufacture and service while maintaining the outstanding accuracy and reliability of the existing CAMS systems,\" said Albert Stefanek, general manager at Hamilton Sundstrand\'s Pomona, Calif., site. \"This new design, along with the use of our new manufacturing area and techniques, will make the CAMS a much less expensive subsystem for the Navy.\" Hamilton Sundstrand Pomona produces a variety of analytical detection products. The first CAM IIA was delivered to the Navy.
