Think Global Flight, or TGF, an around-the-world flight promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or Stem, made a stopover in the UAE bringing former astronaut Dr Buzz Aldrin and his partner and TGF creator, Capt. Judy Rice.
Dr Aldrin and Rice visited Gargash Enterprises' Deira showroom recently in an effort to raise awareness and charitable donations for TGF.
The programme provides prospects to more than 20,000 students in 21 countries across the globe inspiring students to succeed and excel in the aviation and aerospace industries.
Regarding the TGF effort, Dr Aldrin said: "Back when I was privileged to be a part of the Apollo programme, no one had ever heard of Stem. In our technological, global society, students are falling behind in these areas. Stem is exactly the focus of TGF, reaching over 20,000 students and why I strongly support Captain Judy and TGF... this global effort needs support to raise the final funds necessary to complete the around the world flight with $100,000 out of the one million already earned."
Gargash Enterprises general manager Karl-Johan Sandesjo also interacted with Dr Aldrin, who was part of the first manned lunar landing in history, along with other officials.
"Connected with our passion for corporate social responsibility, we strive to empower underprivileged students. We take pride in being associated with such partnerships between business, government and the social sector to address major challenges facing global communities," said Sandesjo.
The duo's UAE tour was supported by Gargash Enterprises in association with Barrell Energy, a leading diesel supplier in Dubai.
