An Asian woman sustained moderate injuries on Thursday after a cooking gas cylinder exploded inside the kitchen of her apartment in the fourth floor of a building in Al Jarf area of Ajman. The woman was rushed to the hospital and the building was evacuated for the safety of the residents.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brig. Rashid Muglad, deputy director of the Ajman Civil Defence, said that the explosion caused massive damage to the woman's apartment and neighbouring apartments.
He explained that they received a call in the afternoon about a loud explosion in the building which consists of four floors. Firefighters from the directorate and Al Jarf fire station rushed to the site, but there was no fire incident.
They rushed the injured woman to Khalifa Hospital. Upon inspection, it was found out that the explosion was caused due to a leak in the gas cylinder kept in the kitchen. The explosion caused cracks in the walls of the flats in the fourth floor and damaged the glass windows of other flats in the building.
After ensuring safety, the site has been handed over to police authorities for further investigation.
Brig. Muglad urged the residents to ensure safety of the gas connection and validity of the cylinders. "Regular maintenance of the stove should be conducted and people should ensure proper ventilation in kitchen when there are gas cylinders," he added.
