UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women Rashida Manjoo described, Friday in Rabat, as “an important initiative” the draft bill on violence against women in Morocco. This draft bill is an important initiative and a good start in the fight against all forms of violence against women in Morocco, she told MAP after a meeting with the inter-ministerial Delegate for Human rights Mahjoub El Haiba. Rashida Manjoo said that the bill is in line with Morocco’s international commitments in terms of upholding human rights and shows the country’s political will to stop violence against women. Manjoo is visiting the Kingdom at the invitation of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) to take part in an international conference which was held yesterday in Rabat on “Impunity and discrimination: violence based on gender in Morocco.”
