Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak
Dubai - WAM

H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, GWU, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, FDF, and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, donated Dh500,000 for a charity bazaar organised Friday by wives of foreign diplomats in the UAE to raise funds to help Syrian refugee children in the Syrian-Jordanian border areas.

In a statement to WAM, Sheikha Al Yaziya bint Saif bint Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, who announced the donation during the opening of charity event at the General Women's Union, said that Sheikha Fatima's humanitarian donations further demonstration of her generosity and support for all underprivileged people, women and children in particular, in line with the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan that is honoured by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to sustain the UAE's status as an oasis of charity and a major supporter for international humanitarian action.

She hailed the UAE's strategy for backing global humanitarian action in line with the directives of the wise leadership and based on the established values of charity and backing friends and brothers. She noted that the bazaar was part of an obligation towards the Syrian refugees.

"All of us should be proactive and quick to support and help them and try to alleviate their suffering in this ordeal."

Sheikha Al Yaziya also hailed the organisation of the bazaar and thanked the wives of diplomats and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the charity event.

On her part, Nadia Al Hashani, wife of Libya's Ambassador, and head of the international diplomatic group of the wives of ambassadors accredited to the UAE, thanked Sheikha Fatima for supporting the group's charity activities and said her contributions inspire women in the UAE and around the world and promote love, compassion and diligence.

She also thanked Sheikha Al Yaziya for gracing the event which, she said, will use its proceeds this year to help Syrian refugee children on the Syrian-Jordanian border areas.

Al Hashani further noted that through the UAE's Tarahamu (Show Compassion) campaign launched early this year, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, effectively contributed to efforts to alleviate the ongoing suffering of Syrian children. She called for continuing efforts to help them until they are again stable and safe.

Following the opening, Sheikha Al Yaziya toured the bazaar where traditional handicrafts, costumes and food products from participating countries are being sold to raise the funds.
