Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said that her country is eager to cooperate with the United Nations on the Every Women Every Child (EWEC) project, Thai News Agency reported Wednesday. Yingluck, now attending the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, also attended a parallel meeting of EWEC: Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health. The EWEC project is initiated by UN Secretary General Ban Ki- moon to mobilize and intensify global action to improve the health of women and children and cut their death rate around the world. During her speech at the meeting, Yingluck underlined Thai government's role in supporting the EWEC project, saying that Thailand's Universal Health Coverage covers 99 percent of the country's overall population which reflected the Thai government' s emphasis on the quality of life for women and children. The Thai premier also emphasized the importance of women's empowerment. The National Development Fund for Women initiated by the Thai government is designed to enable women's participation in economic growth. Yingluck pledged to support the project in efforts to improve the health of women and children worldwide and to give more opportunity for them to access better quality of health care services.
