A delegation from the National Council for Women, headed by Ambassador Mervat El-Tallawy, met with President Mohamed Morsi on Monday to discuss the position of women in the draft constitution. President Morsi has been holding a series of meetings since last week with various political powers, including former presidential candidates and representatives of political parties and organisations, to hear their views on the draft constitution. The status of women’s rights within the constitution has been very controversial, especially after the deletion of Article 36 guaranteeing equality between men and women in accordance with Islamic Sharia law. 14 feminist figures attended the meeting, including Mona Makram Ebeid and Nadia Mostafa. Morsi and his VP Mahmoud Mekki listened to the concerns of the representatives on the constitution draft with particular emphasis on articles concerning women, according to Morsi\'s spokesman Yasser Ali.
