Samia Haimoura is one of five final participants In Vodafone’s female acceleration program, F-Lane. Her app, Securella, strives to protect women in the fight against sexual harassment.
Over the course of six weeks, the program will digital impact projects that focus on female empowerment, like Securella, and enables their creators to push forth their design.
Haimoura saw a need for an application that would create a safe environment for all women. “Many women are subject to violence in places we don’t now about,” she told F-Lane.
Through the Morocco based Securella Walk Safe application, she intends to help women get help when they need it with the touch of a button. In her subscription video to F-Lane, Haimoura describes the multiple layers behind Securella. The application alerts users of “hot” danger zones, as well as safe zones they can access by utilizing geo map technology. Haimoura has established agreements with local businesses and supporters who will offer places of refuge in case of an emergency.
The application also offers the option of a wearable emergency button that users can press to receive immediate help and an online community that meets for real life activities to rebuild strength and confidence.
While Securella is still in prototype, it is set to launch in April 2017, according to an interview with F-Lane.
The F-Lane program is the first social tech startup accelerator in Germany made for and by women, according to Vodafone Representative, Danyal Alaybeyoglu, noting that only nine percent of technology startups worldwide have been founded by women.
F- Lane promotes gender equality through technology in a time where, science, technology and engineering fields are facing large gender disparities. The first class of entrepreneurs will graduate from the program on March 14, 2017.
To women who want to be courageous: “Just go with your gut,” says Haimoura in a video for an F-Lane blog.
“Calculate your risks, calculate your trade-off, and go for it.”
