A larger number of female Kuwaiti athletes from Al-Fatat Club will be taking part in the Second Arab Women's Sports Championship, due to begin on Sunday in Sharjah. "Such an Arab Gulf gathering constitutes a real win," Chairperson of the Kuwaiti Al-Fatat Club Sheikha Fariha Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said in a statement wishing good luck for the Kuwaiti women champions taking part in the competitions. According to Kuwaiti news service, KUNA, Sheikha Fariha, who is also President of the Kuwait Association for the Ideal Family, expressed gratitude to H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC), and Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah for inviting the Kuwaiti team to take part in the sports event. 900 women athletes representing 14 states will take part in games of the second championship, including basketball, volleyball, tennis table, fencing, shooting, field-and-track and archery. The Kuwaitis will take part in all the games, except for archery. As to the simultaneously-held karate tournament, which got underway in Dubai and concluding on Sunday, it involved up to 1, 100 players representing 125 teams from 56 countries. Sheikha Fariha indicated that 60 dignitaries will be present at the crowning ceremony of the championship. The second championship groups women teams from Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Yemen.
