Jawaher Al Qasimi will highlight the vital role of women in society at IGCF 2016

H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Nama Women Advancement Establishment, will deliver a keynote address at the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) 2016.

Themed ‘Towards More Progressive Societies,’ the two-day forum is organised by the Sharjah Media Centre and will take place on March 20– 21 at Expo Centre Sharjah. More than 2,500 government experts and media figures are expected to participate in the event.

In her first appearance at IGCF, H.H. Sheikha Jawaher will speak at a special session titled ‘The Woman Citizen,’ which has been designated exclusively for women.

She will highlight the vital role that women play in society and the positive change they bring about in their communities. Among its many aspects, her presentation will focus on how women solidify the grounds for sustainable development and how they secure the protection of future generations.

Also taking part in The Woman Citizen session will be Tina Brown, Founder of ‘Women in the World Media’ and Founder and CEO of ‘Tina Brown Live Media.’ Moderated by Saudi TV presenter Muna Abu Sulayman, the platform will feature Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, Founder and CEO of the Afghan Institute of Learning; Lawrence Chickering, Founder and President of ‘Educate Girls Globally’ and Helen Clark, Director of the United Nations Development Programme.

Speaking about her participation at ICGF 2016, Sheikha Jawaher said; "Thanks to Sheikh Dr. Sultan, the Emirate of Sharjah has drawn the world’s attention to the importance of government communication as an instrumental tool in achieving greater convergence in the relationship between ruling bodies and the public. My address at the forum will underline the need to develop effective channels of communication between governments and their audiences, as this will assist them in building their nations and taking their citizens to even greater heights."

"Government communication is central to the development and stability of societies and women are integral to this process. Through their unique qualities, women can inspire government communication and help create effective channels for authorities to reach out to the public. The Woman Citizen session is an essential component of ICGF 2016 as it will assess women's role in intellectual, economic and social development and highlight the importance of government messages in upgrading the status of women in society," she added.

The Woman Citizen will feature a number of keynote subjects relating to government dialogue and the advancement of women, such as examining the role of government communication in formulating and applying laws that aim to protect and support them. Highlighting government communication’s role in addressing audiences and mobilising them to support women’s issues, the session will showcase examples of women who have contributed to their societies, discuss how women are portrayed in the media and analyse the role government communication can play to change the stereotypical image of women.

Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi is the Chairperson of the Nama Women Advancement Establishment, an appointment that followed a decree issued by the Ruler of Sharjah. It came with the support of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
