Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt said that the Yemeni women have shown exceptional courage and were a role model in drawing a brighter future for their country and their children. This came in a press release issued by Head of the EU delegation on the occasion of the International Women’s Day (March 8) and Saba received a copy of it. She pointed out the implications of the celebration of this occasion in Yemen this year, which makes this day a special day in Yemen. "We celebrate International Women's Day, and the women here have a reason to celebrate their contributions over the past three years in the direction of changing Yemen for the better ", the ambassador said. She indicated to the enormous challenges still facing Yemeni women in various parts of the country, pointing out that, over many years, Yemen came at the tail of global index of gender equality. Muscheidt continued to say that this reality would be changed, especially after the success of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC), where the women were given a prominent role in an inclusive political process ,which has not been seen anywhere else in the region. The women in the NDC, along with the rest of the NDC members, were able come up with recommendations that would – if applied effectively – lead to a radical improvement in the statues of women and girls in Yemen, she added. The EU’s diplomat concluded to say "Women are a driving force in making people more successful in different parts of the world, and I am confident that Yemen will follow this path and that the EU will continue to support the Yemeni women in their contributions toward the positive change."
