Two officers were injured during a shootout with a California man who was arrested after holding his girlfriend and her teen daughter hostage, police said. Police arrested the man Wednesday night after an hours-long hostage situation in which he barricaded his girlfriend and her 14-year-old daughter inside an Inglewood, Calif., home, and exchanged gunfire with police, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles reported Thursday. The man, whose name wasn't reported, and his hostages weren't injured. Two Inglewood police officers were treated at Centinela Hospital Center. One was shot in the chest, but the bullet was stopped by his bullet-proof vest. "He's got a significant injury to his chest, but he does not have a penetrating gunshot wound," Lt. Oscar Mejia told KTLA. The second officer was injured when she fell trying to help the first injured officer, KTLA reported. Officers negotiated with the gunman for nine hours before he released the hostages and surrendered to police. "Sometimes these things just take time. I guess finally the negotiators built trust with the suspect, and he felt he would be fairly treated," Lt. Dave Dolson told KTLA, adding the man did not make any demands. "He did what we wanted him to do, exited the house with his arms in the air."
