Today, the Minister of State for Information Affairs, Ms Samira Ibrahim Bin Rajab received Fareed Ramadan, Managing Partner of Nooran Pictures, at her office in Manama and signed a production agreement for the development of Bahraini feature film, The Sleeping Tree. Directed by Mohammed Rashed Buali, The Sleeping Tree revolves around a family’s sense of tragedy, reflecting on the links between Bahraini heritage and cultural beliefs and activities. The film sheds light on human fallibilities within a society’s cultural norms by examining a family’s relationships and the strain brought upon husband and wife through the illness of their daughter. With filming planned to begin by the end of the year, the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) will be co-producers of the film, alongside its creators, Nooran Pictures. Commenting on the agreement, HE Ms Rajab said, ‘Bahrain is rich with talent and our support stems from our strong belief in that talent and the importance of an international presence. The Sleeping Tree is a powerful tale, which everyone can relate to, the world over and we are looking forward to its production and release.’ Signing the agreement on behalf of Nooran Pictures, Mr Ramadan added, ‘We are very pleased to partner with the IAA and the Minister’s confidence in our endeavours is inspiring.’ He explained, ‘Our aim is to produce a film which appeals to local, regional and international audiences alike, bringing Bahraini daily life and stories into people’s hearts and imaginations.’ Set within the environs of a contemporary Bahraini home, The Sleeping Tree, reveals the tensions within a family broken by their daughter’s illness. Yet, just when the parents have despaired of all hope, a series of coincidences leading to the local landmark, the Tree of Life, rebuild the couple’s faith in life and change. At the same time, truths are unchanging and the family must accept their realities.
