Technical and administrative preparations have been completed for the ground-breaking ceremony of the Breast Cancer Hospital in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, the Arab Women Organisation (AWO) announced today in a press statement.
Fatima Majid Al Seri, Deputy Chairperson of AWO, said the project, the first specialist hospital in Sudan to treat breast cancer, was conceptualised following thorough studies of the pressing need due to the increasing cases of the killer disease in Sudan, according to statistics by the World Health Organisation and the Sudanese Ministry of Health.
''Stretching 2,429 square metres, the two-storey health facility will cost US$2.2 million and have the capacity of 60 beds,'' she said, and hoped that the hospital would be a qualitative boost to efforts aimed at reducing cases of breast cancer.
