The women parliamentarians participating in the 7th session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in eastern Lahore city of Pakistan on Wednesday expressed their concern at the situation of Palestinian and Syrian women in Syrian Golan Heights under Israeli occupation.
This came during the meeting of the standing committees on APA women parliamentarians, which was presided over by Pakistan's Senator Nuzhat Sadiq.
Following the meeting, Sadiq said to KUNA: "Women's role is necessary for economic development that needs women empowerment. The women parliamentarians participating in APA have expressed concerns at the situation of Palestinian and Syrian women facing violence." She further said, "We have stressed all the member countries to include at least one parliamentarian in their delegation in APA. This would increase the interaction between the women parliamentarians of the region." The Senator added, "We must affirm the need of APA member Parliaments to provide inputs on ways to promote implementation of the enhanced participation of women in politics." The meetings of the standing committees on political affairs presided by Turkey, Ad-hoc committee on APA Staff and Financial Regulations presided by Russia and APA women parliamentarians concluded on Wednesday.
