An Afghan woman was wounded Tuesday when militants shot several rounds of small arms fire on a local bazaar in eastern province of Nangarhar, the provincial government said.
"The militants fired indiscriminately on Hisarak District bazaar at around 09:00 a.m. local time. The firing caused one woman shopper injured but she was shifted by security forces to the district hospital shortly after the incident," it said in a statement.
The injured remained in stable condition after receiving treatment, according to the statement.
The statement noted that "a pursuit operation was now launched against the fleeing rebels".
The statement blamed the enemies of peace, a term used to refer to Taliban militants, for the attack.
More than 3,540 civilians were killed and over 7,450 injured in Taliban-led attacks and conflicts last year, according to a report by the UN mission in the country released in February.
The report has attributed 62 percent of the casualties to the Taliban and other insurgent groups, 17 percent were attributed to security forces while the rest 21 percent of civilian casualties were unattributed or caused by explosive remnants of war.
