A fire broke out in a university laboratory here, injuring two people, local emergency authorities said Wednesday. The incident happened at the University of Chemistry and Technology, with flames engulfing 40 square meters of the lab, the Emergency Situations Ministry's municipal bureau said. It said 47 people were evacuated during the blaze, the cause of which was under investigation. The University of Chemistry and Technology was originally named the Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology, after Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev. It was transformed into an university in 1992. Mendeleev discovered the Periodic Law, laying a solid foundation for chemical research.
