The Board of Zayed University held a meeting yesterday
Abu Dhabi - WAM

The Board of Zayed University held a meeting yesterday, which was chaired by Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance and President of Zayed University, at its Abu Dhabi branch.
The meeting was attended by the university’s board members who discussed the issue of charitable endowment and the development of 11 endowment fund chairs. These chairs support the university’s efforts to provide an educational environment that encourages creativity, innovation and scientific research development. The board reviewed the developments related to establishing the three endowment chairs of Sultan bin Rashid Al Dhaheri in Islamic Financing, Khalaf Ahmed Al Habtoor in Public Administration, and Humaid bin Nasser Al Owais in the Arabic Language.
The board also approved the student list for the current academic year, as the number of graduates reached 529 graduates last autumn from the university’s branches in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It also accepted over 2,000 new students for the 2016-2017 school year, while the number of students reached 9,094 students last autumn and 8,271 in Spring, 2017.
The board then approved a new policy for accepting students in the 2017-2018 school year, based on the results of the Emirates Standardised Test, EMSAT, in the English Language.
The board praised the university for recently obtaining the AS-ISO and OHS certificates of health, safety and environment in the workplace for both campuses, as well as the Student Facilitations Department’s achievement of the Apple Excellence Programme Award 2016-2017, a specialised award for innovation, leadership and scientific excellence.
The board reviewed a report on Zayed University’s contribution to national initiatives and national agenda indexes, as well as its team nominations, noting that the university won the Best Initiative Award during the Emirates Ceremony for the Year of Reading, and its participation in the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award.
The board also discussed the progress report on main construction projects, including the enlargement of the student campus in Dubai, and approved performance indicators, initiatives and major activities as part of the 2017-2021 strategic plan.
