President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday issued decree no. 231 on granting an extra exams session for first year university students who failed any subject during the 2013-2014 school year.
This decree covers the students who exhausted all opportunities to take exams for this term, and it will be held during the 2014-2015 school year.
The students who benefit from this decree will keep the marks they received during the year in class work, practical tests, seminars, and similar activities.
Caretaker Minister of Higher Education Dr. Malek Ali told journalists that the decree proves President al-Assad’s interest in the affairs of Syrian students for them to continue their educational attainment amid intricate conditions in the country.
The decree, though, was preceded by several ones designed to promote higher education in Syria, the minister said, citing the establishment of six faculties at Syrian universities, besides the establishment of Hama University.
“It goes to show that the higher education process in Syria is proceeding with steady progress and measured steps,” the minister remarked.
