Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has commended the role of the founding fathers of the University of Cairo and those who followed them to manage the affairs of the university.
He also praised the efforts of university in the enlightenment, calling for extending this enlightenment from the campus to reach out those who live in the villages and alleys so as to build a generation's conscious to love their homelands.
This came in a speech delivered by the Ruler of Sharjah this morning during the inauguration ceremony of Al Qasimi conference hall, while paying a visit to the new central library at the university.
He said, "Cairo University was built from the beginning to enlighten the minds of those who fought vigorously to lay the foundation stone for this great scientific edifice. And what we do today does not compare at all with their diligent efforts."
Sheikh Sultan noted, "Egypt was hit by a period of darkness brought by the nocturnal birds".
He pointed out that during his meeting with President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, they exchanged views on intellectual enlightenment project to protect Egypt.
At the conclusion of his tour, President of University of Cairo presented a memento shield to Sheikh Sultan in recognition to his continuous support to the university.
Then the Ruler of Sharjah toured the Faculty of Engineering to inspect its buildings after the face-lifting. The Ruler of Sharjah incurred the expenses worth $2 million to rebuild those buildings damaged earlier in the fire incident.
