The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, MBRCGI, has announced the start of the evaluation process of nominations for the second batch of the Diploma in Government Innovation, which begins in May.

From 17th January to 17th February, the centre received applications through its website from federal and local government entities. It also received for the first time self-nominations from UAE citizens.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation has completed the fifth course of the first batch which focused on the scientific basis for future planning, and its tools in the design of proactive solutions to future challenges.

Huda Al Hashimi, MBRCGI Executive Director, said, "The second batch of the Diploma in Government Innovation has witnessed considerable interest from candidates as revealed by the number of applications received by the centre. We have started the evaluation process to select the candidates for the second batch of the Diploma in Government Innovation, which is set to kick off in May."

Al Hashimi said the next phase of the selection process will include evaluation of the candidates. A specialised evaluation centre will ensure compliance of candidates to the conditions and criteria of the Diploma course, based on which a specific number of candidates will be selected.

She added that the huge response to the second batch reflects the success of the first edition of the Diploma, especially since it features innovative projects supporting the UAE Vision 2021, and has received the personal attention of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Al Hashimi added that opening the door for self-nomination of candidates for the second batch of the Diploma in Government Innovation is aimed at attracting innovators and supporting innovative ideas. It will also help prepare national capacities as part of MBRCGI efforts to promote innovation to make it an integral part of institutional and community culture.

The first batch of the Diploma in Government Innovation, organised by MBRCGI in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, will conclude in April this year.

The fifth course of the first programme highlighted the adoption of innovation in government environment, and ways to encourage employees to innovate services and policies to improve work efficiencies. It highlighted factors of open innovation, which encourages the adoption of cooperation and coordination at the government level, and broadening the participation between the public and private sectors as well as the community.

The training programme for the fifth course included interactive lectures and workshops on spreading a culture of innovation and development of business to keep pace with the rapid developments taking place in the global economy.
