Two participating teams from Effat University have won in the IEEE Women in Engineering Competition. On Saturday the winners were lauded and given their prizes. IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is the largest international professional organization, dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists. Students of Effat university’s Electrical & Computer Engineering department were responsible for the winning projects. One team led a project on automated shipment sorting. Its objective is to sort packages automatically and efficiently, using a robotic arm, conveyors and bar codes. The other team focused on the possibilities of a computer-controlled helicopter. They took a remote controlled helicopter and hooked the remote to a computer. The women in the team considered some options to apply the device in daily life, such as to monitor traffic or to secure an area.
