Director of the Birzeit University Women’s Studies Institute Islah Jad has successfully beaten 32 other candidates to become the 2013-2014 Vera Campbell Resident Scholar. As a result, Jad will be spending nine months at the School for Advanced Research (SAR) in the US from September 1, 2013 through to May 31, 2014. The fellowship programme is designed to support writing and research needs, and encourages interaction with the school’s scholarly community. The School for Advanced Research was established in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1907 as a centre for the study of archaeology and ethnology of southwest America. Since 1967, the scope of the school’s activities has embraced a global perspective through programmes to encourage advanced scholarship in anthropology and related social science disciplines and the humanities, and to facilitate the work of native American scholars and artists.
