In the framework of “Global Collaborations,” a three-year project that aims to promote art from a global perspective, the Stedelijk Museum / Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and the AUB Art Galleries are co-hosting the exhibition and public program entitled “This is the Time. This is the Record of the Time”, curated by Nat Muller and Angela Harutyunyan, assistant professor of art history at the American University of Beirut.
“This is the Time. This is the Record of the Time” activates different temporalities and calls on us to pause and reflect, even if only for a moment. The artists investigate to what extent the recording mechanisms and material recordings of our lived times represent and influence our perception of temporality. The works engage with history, politics, form, social and individual narrative and lived experience from a contemporary angle that looks into the past and at the present moment, and glances into the future.
The exhibition features work of the following artists: Sebastian Diaz Morales, Kristina Benjocki, Peter Fengler, Esme Valk, Priscila Fernandes, Walid Sadek, Cynthia Zaven, Rayyane Tabet and Daniele Genadry. The public program includes artists’ talks, performances, screenings, panel discussions and a symposium organized both in Amsterdam and Beirut.
The opening took place on September 13 in Amsterdam and was followed on September 14 by conversations between Walid Sadek and Rico Franses, and between Daniele Genadry and Angela Harutyunyan.
The exhibition in Amsterdam is running until November 9. The exhibit is expected to be shown at AUB in March.
Global Collaborations is a three-year project that aims to generate an informed and well-balanced overview of developments in contemporary art from a global perspective. It is based on collaborative partnerships with experimental and multifaceted art institutions throughout the world and encompasses exhibitions, publications, events, and an online platform. The program takes place at the Stedelijk Museum and at Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (SMBA), the project space of the Stedelijk.
