As part of its strategic plan to offer a world-class educational environment to its students, Abu Dhabi University has announced the allocation of an Dh 17.2 Million investment to build a 3385 m2 addition to the female dormitory on its Abu Dhabi Campus.
Designed to accommodate the rise in demand for on-campus student housing which already houses 495 students in segregated male and female dorms, the new facility will include 93 rooms, multipurpose hall, a gym, discussion and reading rooms and several service rooms.
Commenting on this much needed addition to ADU's vibrant campus, Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri Chairman of Abu Dhabi University's Executive Board explained that it translates the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and President of ADU's Board of Regents.
"The new on-campus dormitories are a valuable enhancement to our international educational environment and will complement the University's pursuit of international accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The University has also started implementing a comprehensive plan to upgrade and enhance its campus infrastructure, which includes the construction of new residential facilities for several members of faculty and staff that are currently being recruited from prestigious universities around the world, as well as the addition of several lecture halls, classrooms, and laboratories", bin Harmal pointed out.
"Once completed, the new on-campus dormitories will cater to the increase in the number of students enrolling at Abu Dhabi University's various programs in engineering, law, business administration, arts and sciences. During the past academic year, the University achieved a record growth of 54% in total student enrolment of 6,601 students in the first semester of 2014, compared to 4,292 students enrolled in the first semester of 2010, and we expect that these numbers will increase even more, especially with the start of the upcoming academic year", concluded bin Harmal.
