HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah has officially inaugurated the Qatar Science Campus at Engineering Graduate School at Tohoku University in Sendai City.
The Qatar Science Campus is one of the projects funded by Qatar Friendship Fund (QFF) which was launched at the initiative of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani for the Japanese people. The Fund aims to support relief efforts in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami that hit eastern Japan as well as to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the State of Qatar and Japan and their people in order to raise the spirit of hope for the victims and aid management in a quick and efficient manner.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, HE the Foreign Minister Dr. Al Attiyah said that young people are the window to the future and the key to progress, as this is an evidence in Japan more than anywhere else in the world, adding that the goal of the project is to develop the enormous potential and help them discover the techniques that will benefit humanity in the future.
HE the Minister added : "Out of Qatar's belief in the role of science in the sustainability of local communities, Qatar Friendship Fund in collaboration with Tohoku University launched the Qatar Science Campus in order create an advanced scientific learning environment to serve the local community, and prepare a new generation of engineers and researchers that will work to establish new industries in the region.
For his part, President of Tohoku University Susumu Satomi praised the effective role played by the Qatar - Japan Friendship Fund in the reconstruction of the Tohoku region, which he said it had earned a positive reputation within the local community. "
