Iranian researchers from the Tehran Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University in association with researchers from Iran Polymer and Petrochemical Research Institute produced cyanoacrylate (CA) containing acrylate polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (APOSS) nanostructures as tusk adhesives. Some of the problems of cyanoacrylate adhesives, including low mechanical properties and solubility in water, were resolved by using POSS nanostructures. POSS nanostructures improved the properties as networking and strengthening agents. Dental adhesives are compounds that are placed on the tooth structure before the application of composite during the treatment process. Since the surface of the tooth is wet and cyanoacrylate adhesives make good connection with wet surfaces, it is expected that their application as dental adhesives will open a new path in the production of materials with better properties. Cyanoacrylate adhesives were used as tusk dental adhesives in this research, and their problems, including low mechanical properties and solubility in water, were resolved by using POSS nanostructures. An adhesive with the ability to be polymerized under light reflection was produced as well. According to Parastoo Fadayee, a researcher from Tehran Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University, the goal of the research was to investigate the properties of cyanoacrylate adhesives containing acrylo-POSS (APOSS) nanostructures as tusk adhesives. Results of the research carried out by Parastoo Fadayee et al have been published in details in June 2013 in Dental Materials, vol. 29, issue 6, pp. e61-e69.
