Iranian researchers from Tabriz University succeeded in the diagnosis of cancerous tumors at the preliminary stage by using a new algorithm and simulation of nanoparticles to increase the targeting of cancerous tumors. The tumors can be stopped before reaching growth stage through precise imaging methods. The new method has direct applications in medical and biological industries. However, the algorithm can be used indirectly in various industries. The aim of the research was to diagnose cancerous tumors at the first stages by increasing targeting accuracy. Ahmad Salman Oqli Khiyavi, one of the researchers, explained the procedure of the study. “The research consists of four stages. In the first stage, nanoparticles were designed and simulated. Then, the amount of detection of strengthened photons was studied after the addition and finalization of biological elements to the nanobiosensor, and by using PSO algorithm to increase the accuracy of targeting. PSO algorithm was used in this research in nanobiosensor systems to strengthen the amount of photons received by the detector.” In case the research is carried out completely, it can be expected that the tumors would be detected in the first stage, and they can be stopped before they grow or become invasive by using accurate imaging. This can significantly affect the diagnosis and the treatment of cancer. Detection of very tiny tumors is one of the important achievements of this method. In 2012, seven ISI-indexed articles have been published in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering by the research team. One of the articles can be found on vol. 60, issue 5, pp. 1328-1335 on the same journal published in May 2013.
