Riyadh - Arab Today

Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Education and the King Abdul Aziz Foundation for Talent and Creativity (Mawhiba), is due to participate in three international competitions in mathematics, physics and chemistry from the fourth to the 27th of Shawwal 1437 AH in Hong Kong, Switzerland and Georgia.
Saudi Arabia is competing in the International Olympiad of Mathematics with a scientific team of five students. This competition is being held in Hong Kong. A team of four students will also compete in the International Olympiad of Physics, which will be held in the Swiss city of Zurich.
Ninety countries are participating in this year’s competition, with a total of 450 students, while 80 countries are participating in the International Olympics of Chemistry, which is being hosted in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. Five countries are participating as observers.
Adel Al-Qaeed, deputy secretary-general of the King Abdul Aziz Foundation for Talent and Creativity, said: “The Kingdom’s participation in the three international Olympics events reflects the keenness of the Ministry of Education and Mawhiba to present an honorable image of the Kingdom through serious competitions. The Kingdom is also keen to continue improving the international classification of the Kingdom in all three areas.”
Al-Qaeed added that these competitions are one of the steps that the Ministry of Education and Mawhiba take in order to develop the talents and abilities of the sons and daughters of the nation in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It also aims to showcase the distinctive and fruitful partnership between the Kingdom and other countries, while providing a competitive environment that satisfies the students’ interests and which contributes to the discovery of geniuses.
Al-Qaeed pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s teams are well prepared for the three Olympic events thanks to an intensive training program that continued throughout the year so as to qualify them in line with the latest scientific foundations and methods, under the supervision of a group of training experts who are known for their competence and experience.
