Construction of the emirate's newest school, Fatima bint Mubarak, was completed this month to accommodate up to 642 pupils.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council handed the building over to the Ministry of Education, which regulates schools in the northern emirate.
"There is full coordination between Adec and the MoE in the fields of support, development and exchange of expertise in line with the plans developed to advance the education sector and improve the learning outcomes across UAE,” said Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Adec's director general. "The MoE is the federal umbrella for education in the UAE and Adec spares no effort to support the ministry's endeavours.”
Adec operates public schools in Abu Dhabi, while the ministry manages public schools in all of the other emirates. Adec also regulates private schools in Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, the private school monitoring role is given to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority.
Fatima bint Mubarak moved from design stage to a completed school in 13 months. The K-12 school is located in the Al Hamraneya area of RAK.
The school includes 26 classrooms, five IT and science laboratories, an indoor swimming pool, outdoor and indoor sports courts, an indoor multipurpose gymnasium equipped with aerobic exercise activities and an auditorium that can accommodate 210 people.
Fatima bint Mubarak was built in compliance with the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
"The school has been designed to achieve the highest levels of sustainability, reduce the undesired environmental effects and preserves all natural resources, as well as providing the surrounding community with the opportunity to benefit from the school facilities, to include its library, swimming pool, outdoor courts, children clinic and other advanced services the school provides after the school day and during holidays,” said Dr. Al Qubaisi.
