As many as 18 students in schools of Sharqia province were infected by mumps.
They were given an obligatory 15-day vacation to prevent infections.
These remarks were made by Director of the Preventive Medicine Department in Sharqia Khaled Fawzy.
He underlined that the number of infected students is less than normal during this period of the year, adding that the physicians in schools were given directives to check on students to make sure that they were not infected.
The infected ones would not return to schools except after they recovered, Fawzy said, adding that there was a plan to raise awareness.
Students are advised to maintain public hygiene; wash their hands with soap and not to exchange their personal belongings with each other.
