Authorities in Florida said an elementary school lost thousands of dollars worth of food when it was ruined during a sloppy burglary. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said burglars broke into Pinewood Elementary School in Orlando, ruining the food by leaving coolers open, spreading packaged meats around the floor, spilling cartons of milk and ripping a freezer door off its hinges, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday. Witnesses said they saw people throwing boxes over a fence behind the school. A police canine followed a scent trail from the school to a nearby area where police arrested James Rogers Jr., 21, who was carrying a bin containing chocolate milk, cheese and salad dressing. A school security officer said the cost of the crime, including the ruined food and damaged property, was estimated at more than $10,000. Rogers was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, petty theft and trespassing on school grounds.
