Jordan and France on Wednesday signed a partnership to allow Jordanian atomic energy scientists to access nuclear research reactors of member countries of the Nuclear Club.
The agreement, which comes in the framework of the ICERR program (International Center based on Research Reactors), was signed by Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, Khaled Toukan, and Director of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, Daniel Verwaerde.
“The agreement is the first of its kind signed by a Middle Eastern country”, Toukan said, adding that the program, which was launched earlier this year by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aims to allow scientists from member states to easily access research reactors in nuclear countries.
The French official said that his country’s nuclear facilities are among the most advanced in the world in the field of nuclear research, and the first to receive a certificate of recognition from IAEA.
Verwaerde added that his country supports the responsible development of peaceful reactors and helps countries that use this form of nuclear energy, which produces limited amounts of greenhouse gas emissions.
