An Indian university has tied up with a university in Mozambique to help provide “global career opportunities for students”. The O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) Tuesday signed here a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of St. Thomas of Mozambique (USTM), a communique said. USTM Rector Joseph Wamala said: “The MoU...marks an important beginning in institutional collaborations between Africa and India reflecting the impact of globalization and the need for promoting global career opportunities for students in Mozambique.” As many as 15 female students from different provinces have been selected for full scholarship from the government of Mozambique to study in various degree programmes at JGU in Sonipat, Haryana state. JGU Vice Chancellor Raj Kumar said that his university’s expanding relationship with Mozambique was a “shining example of South-South cooperation, wherein an Indian university was assisting in capacity building of a fellow developing country in the spirit of international understanding, equality and shared learning”. There are approximately 20,000 persons Indian origin people in this southern African nation, out of which around 1,000 are Indian nationals. The majority of them have their origins in Gujarat, Goa, Daman and Diu.
