Paine College in Augusta, the U.S. state of Georgia and several nearby schools are on lockdown following a shooting incident on campus, the second in two days, local officials confirmed on Monday. Local law enforcement officials responded to a shooting incident on the campus of Paine College Monday afternoon, in which one person was shot and taken to hospital, Richmond County Sheriff 's Office confirmed in a statement. The victim suffered a non-life threatening injury. One person of interest has been taken into custody, the sheriff 's officials said. The Paine College campus has been on lockdown Monday afternoon following the shooting incident, the school announced via its Twitter account. Paine College also said it was working closely with the Richmond County law enforcement authorities. Nearby Georgia Regents University and several public schools have also been locked down in response to the shooting, the Augusta Chronicle reported. This is the second reported shooting incident in less than 24 hours on the Paine College campus. According to a statement released earlier on Monday, Paine College Police and Richmond County law enforcement are investigating a shooting incident that took place Sunday afternoon in one of the male residence halls on campus and took the campus in a lockdown mode. It is not yet clear if the two shootings were related.
