In a further expansion into what it regards as a key market, BBC Worldwide is to launch its international BBC HD channel on Cyfrowy Polsat, Poland’s largest and the fourth largest DTH platform. Beginning on 1 February 2012, the deal will see BBC HD available for all subscribers to the service’s extended basic tier, Extra HD and will complement BBC HD’s existing Polish services on Cyfra+, n, TPSA and UPC Polska. The channel will BBC HD showcases the very best British and international high-definition content with a line-up of multi-award-winning documentaries, entertainment and arts programming. It will be fully lectored into Polish and will attempt to offer a true home-cinema experience. Content highlights for the channel over the coming months include Wonders of the Solar System, How Earth Made Us, Life, Natures Great Events, Sherlock, Luther and 10 Days to War. Commenting on the deal, Ian McDonough, SVP and General Manager EMEA, BBC Worldwide Channels said: "I am delighted to announce our agreement with Cyfrowy Polsat, a world class channel provider, to launch BBC HD from 1 February. BBC HD showcases the very best from the BBC across a wide range of genres so Cyfrowy Polsat viewers can view many of their favourite comedy, drama and documentary series in stunning high definition quality.” Dominik Libicki, President of Cyfrowy Polsat SA added: “I am very pleased to work with such a renowned television broadcaster and producer as the BBC.
