Seth Rogen and James Franco's controversial comedy The Interview is coming to Netflix this weekend.
The streaming giant said Tuesday the movie will be available to stream as of Jan. 24 just 30 days after it premiered in cinemas. The announcement was made as part of the company's fourth-quarter earnings report.
The Interview was written by Rogen and follows a television journalist (Franco) and his producer (Rogen) who are tasked with killing North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un. The film was surrounded by controversy upon its Dec. 25 premiere date as hackers dubbed The Guardians of Peace threatened 9/11-like violence on theaters that showed the movie.
After several prominent figures -- including President Barack Obama -- encouraged Sony to show the movie as scheduled, the film was released in a limited number of theaters and streamed on YouTube on Christmas Day.
According to Netflix the film will be available to subscribers in Canada and the U.S. at no extra cost.
The Interview is currently available to rent for $5.99 and buy for $14.99 on the Apple Store, YouTube, Amazon, Google Play and Xbox video. As of Wednesday the film has grossed $6 million at the box office.
