It is needed to eradicate the uncensored speech in the Internet through the self-regulation of the World Wide Web, executive director of the League of Safe Internet Denis Davydov said on Friday in comments on an initiative of the State Duma deputies for the struggle against uncensored speech in the blogs and on various websites. “The flow of uncensored speech in the Internet is a serious problem. It is needed to combat it. The initiatives, which are aimed at this, deserve attention and support, but it is needed to say about the self-regulation of the industry,” Davydov noted. In his words, it is needed to use efficient and technically feasible ways of a voluntary filtration in the Internet from dirty words. Earlier chairperson of the State Duma committee for the affairs of family and children Yelena Mizulina (A Just Russia) proposed to representatives of the Internet community to focus attention on an excessive profane language in the Internet. No appropriate legislative measures are in view, in her words, but they can be developed, if the industry fails to find the ways of struggle against uncensored speech. “One of the ways can be a free filter of the League of Safe Internet, which about 1,000 families had already applied,” Davydov believes. The filter with a 98% efficiency rate cleans up the home Internet from illegal content, including pornography, the scenes of violence and cruelty, the propaganda of drug addiction and the information about the sale of drugs, the information about aggressive totalitarian sects and uncensored speech. Now the responsibility for the use of profane language is set only for the media, and the Russian telecommunications watchdog is monitoring the violations in this sphere.
