Sharjah Media Corporation, SMC, is preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sharjah TV during a special ceremony at the corporation's headquarters in Sharjah on Thursday. Decision makers and senior officials from various sectors, as well as media representatives, special guests, and senior officials and employees from SMC, will attend the event. Sharjah Media Corporation will present a number of programmes about Sharjah TV's inception and will highlight the role of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in supporting the media sector in Sharjah and formulating appropriate directions and strategies. The programmes will recall 25 years of milestones that have led Sharjah TV to come to the fore as one of the leading broadcasters in the country and region. Sharjah Media Corporation will honour a number of media figures who have significantly contributed to the development of Sharjah TV, including the founders and pioneers who lived the beginning of Sharjah TV. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khalid Al Midfa, Director-General of SMC, said, "Our celebration of the silver anniversary comes as a culmination of a long series of dedicated efforts that, combined, have lead Sharjah TV to take a leading position in the country and region. Our new generation continues to stay abreast with the latest developments in international media and to set new benchmarks in many fields. As we mark this occasion, we would like to affirm that the level of excellence and leading position we have reached would not have been possible without the unlimited support and prudent vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow up and directives of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation." In the same context, Mohamed Khalaf, Manager of Sharjah TV and Radio, said, "We are proud to continue devoted work under this prestigious name, Sharjah TV, and to set clear and effective benchmarks in the U.A.E. media, to help this medium safeguard the gains of the union and achieve the ambitions and aspirations of our valued citizens. We believe our performance will be even better in the coming period in the light of the new renovations and technologies being adopted since end of last year, which will enable us to produce distinctive programmes for spectators and help convey our national message to new generations." Sharjah Television officially started its transmissions on the 11th of February 1989, after inauguration by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. Sharjah TV telecasts programmes in Arabic, English and Urdu.
