French centrist Emmanuel Macron impressed more viewers than his far-right rival Marine Le Pen in last night's TV debate, a poll found Thursday.
A poll by French broadcaster BFMTV found that 63 percent of viewers thought Macron was the "most convincing" of the two.
The candidates clashed over the economy, Europe and terrorism in the TV debate that was watched by 16.5 million people. The second round run-off between the pair takes place on Sunday.
Both candidates were hoping to make an impression on the estimated 18% of undecided voters in the first election the country has ever held without a candidate from the two traditional parties.
