The Lebanese media group Al-Manar commented on the discontinuation of the Syrian channels Arabsat and Nilesat saying that the decision was an execution of political will to try and prevent private media channels from having their own voice and instead portray the political path of anti-Zionism and defending Palestinian issues. In a statement Al-Manar said: “The makers of this decision could not tolerate a voice or expression different in its view or approach to issues from their political agenda. They imposed it on Arab satellites contrary to the will of those responsible for the administration of these satellites that are well aware of their professional responsibility.” The statement went on to say: “We express our solidarity with these Syrian channels harmed by this decision. We believe that this flagrant targeting of the freedom of media and expression will only make media professionals more resolute in their professionalism and defending freedom of opinion, within view of this major Arab feebleness. But we trust that no one will be able, within view of this huge development in the means of communication, stop the word and prevent the picture.”
