Fiji Sun daily has extensively covered on its first page the visit of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, and the talks he held with the Prime Minister of Fiji, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, Finance and senior officials.
The newspaper reported that this was the second visit of Sheikh Abdullah to Fiji after the earlier one in 2010, adding that the two visits reflected the importance Sheikh Abdullah attached to Fiji, one of the small developing Islands in the Pacific Ocean. It noted that this visit culminated years of diplomatic efforts to build relations between the two countries.
It quoted the statement of Fijian Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola who welcomed Sheikh Abdullah and said that the visit reflects the development of ties and friendship since the establishment of diplomatic ties in March 2010.
The paper also covered the inauguration ceremony of the "Lakaro Hyrbrid" project to provide clean energy to the three islands of Kadavu, Levuka and Rotuma. The project was constructed by Masdar.
It referred to the prosperity and stability being experienced by the UAE, while adding that oil constitutes one-third of the GDP as the government continues to diversify sources of income away from oil.
Fiji Times also covered the visit of the UAE Foreign Minister, emphasising its importance in consolidating bilateral relations, co-operation and joint investments. It shed light on the talks held by Sheikh Abdullah and top Fijian officials.
