The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday condemned the brutal beheading of US journalist James Foley by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Exercises of the ISIL have no connections with Islam and its values, they are against principles on which the OIC was based, Iyad Ameen Madani, the OIC Secretary General, said in a statement, adding that such principles call for establishing culture of tolerance among peoples.
Medani expressed his condolences to Foley's family, US President Barack Obama and the US people. He also renewed his condolences to hundreds of Muslim and Christian families whose members were killed by the "terrorist group".
Medani lauded condemnations made by different international and regional countries and bodies against criminal exercises of the ISIL, referring to the fatwa of Saudi Mufti which considers the ISIL "the first enemy of Islam". Meanwhile, Medani affirmed that the OIC supports international efforts that combat this "terrorist entity", which does not respect man's dignity and abuses the tolerant teachings of Islam.
He welcomed convening an international conference to combat the ISIL, calling for discussing conditions in which the ISIL emerges, most prominent is the dissociation of political, administrative, social institutions in Iraq since US intervention in 2003.
