Spanish laSexta’s producer Mediapro has signed contracts with several international broadcasters to ensure the broadcast of La Liga football outside Spain. The issuance of the league in free TV in Spain is still up in the air, as the chain that now owns the rights to broadcast games, La Sexta, has already announced its intention not to renew for next season. In a meeting at its headquarters in Barcelona, Mediapro Group and international broadcasters analysed the technical aspects of the Liga deals, such as the transmission of the television signal or graphics, and the advantage of advertising opportunities or new media. Directors and producers came from ESPN (Latin America and South east Asia), RS (Thailand), Belgacom TV (Belgium), OTE (Greece), NTV (Turkey) , B Sky B (UK), CANAL+ and CANAL 9 (Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland), Sky (Mexico), Bein Sports (France), La Ola1TV (Germany) and TV & R Broadcasting Company (Ukraine). Spain’s national public broadcaster RTVE has to face a cut of 204 million euros to its budget so is unlikely to buy the rights to the league, while Grupo Planeta’s Antena 3 and Mediaset España’s Telecinco have both warned that they have no interest in buying the rights unless there is a price reduction.
