The GCC commission for evaluating and developing media strategy, a panel affiliated to the GCC Consultative Committee, held a meeting here on Wednesday aimed at re-examining the joint stratey for developing media of the council member states. Committee member Abdullah Yacoub Al-Beshara said, in a statement, on fringes of the meeting, the strategy on the table for examination had been tentatively drawn up by Their Highnesses leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries at the Abu Dhabi summit of 2010. Al-Beshara added that the panel will consider whether the media strategy meets the needs of the GCC members in view "of latest developments," affirming that the proposed strategy would be re-examined members of the special commission. Media cooperation among the GCC States started prior to the founding of the GCC through periodic meetings of the GCC ministers of information leading to the establishment of eight joint media institutions. These are the Joint TV/Radio Program Production Organization, the Gulf TV, The GCC News Agency, Popular Heritage Center, Radio and TV Training Coordination Center, Media Documentation Center, Coordination and Planning Committee for Petroleum Information, and International Media Relations Committee. Objective of joint media action among the GCC states is unification of media policies and adoption of a uniform formula that takes into account the basic objectives of the GCC in the fields of radio broadcasting, TV, press, news agencies, publications, and foreign media. The joint media action also aims at fostering coordination and interconnection among the media agencies to enable them to achieve their objectives and responsibilities towards GCC peoples, and to utilize their effort and productions for the common good.
