In a further success for the broadcasting division and adding to wins in the US, BBC Worldwide has closed content deals with leading Spanish digital platforms Telefónica, Youzee and Cameo. Explaining the eagerness for the commercial arm of the corporation to offer digital consumers in Spain more access to what it regards as top British television, Gary Woolf, VP Business Development & Digital - Sales & Distribution of BBC Worldwide said: “Digital sales are a key focus for our business and these Spanish deals are further evidence of the growth we continue to see throughout EMEA and globally.” The country’s leading telco, Telefónica, is tapping the BBC to round out the content proposition for its recently launched VOD service with over 260 hours of programmes across drama, documentary and children’s services. These include Doctor Who, the Hartswood Films hit Sherlock, Clerkenwell’s Misfits and Torchwood: Miracle Day. In addition, Telefónica will make available children’s programme Charlie & Lola and factual titles Amazon with Bruce Parry, Polar Bear – Spy on the Ice, Earth Under Water and Louis Theroux. BBC Worldwide will be a launch partner for new VOD platform Youzee, supplying 65 hours of content across comedy and drama.
