Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) held a workshop under the theme “The Official Spokesperson .. Communication Skills with the Media”. Culture Ministry Media Advisor Dr. Elie Flouty conducted the training in the presence of officials, journalists, students and public relations officers working in both the public and private sectors. The lecturer stressed the importance of designating an official spokesperson at each ministry and establishment to regulate relations with the public through the media. Dr Elie Flouty said that the Kingdom of Bahrain had already embarked on this path, stressing the importance of setting up specialized institutions in Bahrain to train and brush up the skills of official spokespersons. He urged the University of Bahrain to train media students on the skills of official spokesperson, stressing the growing clout of the information industry and its impact on major events, such us crises and elections. BJA board member Ehab Ahmed said that the workshop is part of initiatives and efforts to promote the standard of media personnel in Bahrain. In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), he announced plans to hold a workshop on investigative journalism. Bahrain Cycling Association chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa stressed the importance of the workshop in promoting the culture of the spokesperson.
